Crystal Palace confirm the signing of Joachim Andersen on five-year deal

Crystal Palace have secured the signing of Joachim Andersen from Lyon, with the Denmark international penning a five-year deal at Selhurst Park.

Andersen spent the 2020/21 season on loan at fellow London-based side Fulham and was a standout performer despite the Cottagers' relegation to the Championship.

The 25-year-old has always insisted he sees his future in the Premier League having returned to parent club Lyon, and he's now got the move he craved with Palace taking to their official website to confirm his arrival.

"Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Denmark international defender Joachim Andersen on a five-year deal," they wrote. "The 25-year-old centre-back joins Palace from Lyon after a competing in the Euro 2020 semi-final this summer."

Andersen revealed newly-appointed Palace manager Patrick Vieira had a huge influence on his decision to move to Selhurst Park and is looking forward to playing an important role in the club's rebuild.

“I’m extremely proud to be joining Crystal Palace and to be playing in the world’s best football league," he said. "The management of the club and Patrick Vieira have given me very strong assurance that they know my qualities, they believe in me and want me to play an important role in the team.

"I have a very positive impression of Patrick from the conversations I have had with him, and I have heard nothing but great things about the manager, the club and its plans for the future."

Vieira has wasted no time at all in looking to strengthen his side this summer following the departure of a whole host of first-team members.

Prior to announcing the arrival of Andersen, the Eagles had already secured the signings of highly-rated youngsters Marc Guehi and Michael Olise, and many more new faces are expected to be brought in before Palace kick off their 2021/22 Premier League campaign against Chelsea on 14 August.
