Juventus targeting surprise move for Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic in January

Italian giants Juventus are interested in a surprise move for Championship top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic, 90min understands.

Mitrovic is enjoying a sensational season at Fulham with 22 goals in 22 games so far, and he also netted a crucial header for Serbia which sent them to the 2022 World Cup at Portugal's expense.

The 27-year-old has claimed the PFA Championship Player of the Month award three months in a row, such has been his scintillating form.

The frontman only signed a new five-and-a-half year deal in August, making him the highest-paid player outside of the Premier League. He loves life in London and has not been courting interest from elsewhere.

However, the Serb's exploits this season have attracted interest from some of Europe’s top clubs – with Juventus his main suitors at this stage.

Juve are in the market for a new striker and Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic had been top of their wanted list. However, although they would still love to sign him, relations between the two Serie A clubs are not good.

Fiorentina accused Juve of 'stealing' Federico Chiesa from them in 2020, and as such they are not keen to sell Vlahovic to the Turin giants, who could instead turn to his international teammate Mitrovic.

90min understands that Fulham, who are the promotion favourites in the Championship, inevitably do not want to lose Mitrovic, but stopping him joining a club like Juventus could be difficult.

It is believed that Juve would like secure his services in January, but it would not be a simple deal and a fee close to the Championship record £41m Man City paid for Bournemouth's Nathan Aké may be required.

Sources have told 90min that Fulham have been making enquiries about possible attacking replacements, which suggests the Cottagers fear Mitrovic could move on in the near future.

Blackburn’s Ben Bereton-Diaz and Queens Park Rangers’ Lyndon Dykes are among the players they have asked about in recent weeks.
