The Fulham midfielder has been named for the first time in in manager Fabio Capello's 23-man squad for the qualifiers against Andorra at Barcelona's Olympic Stadium on Saturday, 6th September and Croatia in Zagreb four days later.

"I'm absolutely buzzing," he told the official Fulham website.

"To represent England has been my ambition ever since I was a young boy and to be called up by Fabio Capello is just a dream come true for me.

"I've been working hard since my return from injury and I'd like to think that has earned me this chance.

"Now it's down to me to prove myself to the manager and just see what happens from there.

"The most important things is that England qualify for the World Cup in 2010 and any part I can play in helping us do that will make me immensely proud.

"I can't wait to meet up with the squad today. This is just an incredible moment for me and now I want to push on and do the very best I can for England."
