The Dutch stopper kept the Saints strike force at bay with a number of an exceptional saves at the Cottage on Saturday.

"Edwin played very well but he needed to because Southampton didn't make it easy for us," said Coleman.

"Maybe we didn't deserve to win, and it could have been a different result, but I'm pleased to be sitting here with three points in the bag after what was a mediocre performance."

Coleman was also pleased to see Canadian striker Tomasz Radzinski get himself on the scoresheet.

"I'm pleased for Tomasz because he has been working hard in training and took his goal well," added the Fulham boss.

"We needed that win and I don't mind if we have to grind out results like that."
