"Chelsea were not great and were there for the taking, but we did just not perform," he said after the game at Stamford Bridge.
"I don't know why, perhaps it was just one of those games. We defended poorly for both of their goals, but we were poor in attack as well.
"Last week, we had 20 attempts on goal against Leeds United, today just one.
"I kept the same formation but were just lacklustre.
"I changed formations, but to be honest, we just did not perform as individuals," he added.
"When we have lost away this season, we have lost badly. We need to get some consistency back into our side.
"Our home performances are good. We should be a top ten side and I'll be frustrated if we finish the season outside that.
