Central-defender Coleman announced his retirement from football this week after losing his long battle to regain fitness from a broken right leg sustained in a car crash.

Coleman will combine his duties as a coach to Jean Tigana at Fulham with that of the Wales post.

"Mark has given me the chance to get involved on the coaching side of things," Coleman told the BBC.

"I have asked Fulham and they have said it is okay, so I will be joining Mark with Wales.

"I am going to miss playing, but doing some coaching will be the next best thing.

"Mark deserves a lot credit for Wales' current success. We are lot more organised now and have definitely turned the corner."

The Cottagers club captain was capped 32 times for Wales during his playing days.
