The 35-year-old veteran keeper stepped in for Edwin van der Sar in the recent 1-0 Carling Cup win at Birmingham and kept his place in the Fulham starting eleven for the 2-0 win against Tottenham last weekend and Coleman insists that as long as he continues to perform as he as done then he will keep his place in the side.

"Whoever has the shirt, as long as they play well, they will hang onto it," the Fulham boss has said.

"It is the same across the board. Edwin understands that. It doesn't matter whether it is Edwin van der Sar or Andrew Cole.

"When somebody comes in and does well they stay there. I would be a hypocrite to leave him out and I'm not going to do that."
