Fulham battle with Everton for United star?

Louis Saha may be ready to move back to Fulham, but the Cottagers could be reluctant to cough up the reported £6m asking price.

Instead, Everton have entered the fray.

Toffees boss David Moyes needs to strengthen his squad ahead of the forthcoming Champions League campaign.

United paid Fulham £12.8m for the 26-year-old in January 2004, but the hitman only made 11 starts last term.

Now that Mikael Forssell has gone to Birmingham for £3m, Moyes now has Saha in mind as a doubly-expensive option!

At least, there may be less worries about Saha's fitness, though it is fair to say the United striker has also had his fair share of injuries.

Bearing in mind that Fulham have already sold Edvin van der Sar to United, perhaps the Red Devils will return the favour and allow Saha to return to the Cottage on a season-long loan deal.

However, with only (!) £25m to spend each year, perhaps United will be keen to add to their transfer kitty by offloading Saha on a permanent basis.

Moyes switched his attention to Saha after failing to land Chelsea’s Mikael Forssell. Moyes had agreed a £3m deal with Chelsea for the Finn but then had concerns over the player’s fitness.

Craven Cottage boss Chris Coleman had been trying to get Saha back in a season-long loan deal.

But United boss Alex Ferguson wants a cash move to help him rebuild after failing to win a trophy last season.
