Hammers and Charlton in for Fulham ace?

Fulham striker Steve Marlet could be returning to England after Marseille turned down the chance to extend his two-year loan.

The striker joined Fulham for a club record £11.5million in 2001 but fell out with Chris Coleman and will probably never play for the club again.

Marlet is repotedly interested in playing for another Premiership team, particularly one in London.

Chelsea and Arsenal are almost certainly not interested, and the same probablt applies to Spurs.

By a process of elimination that leaves just West Ham and Charlton as possible destinations.

Charlton may consider a swap deal with Euell moving to Fulham.

Whoever signs him will have to meet his £40,000-a-week wage demands.

A Fulham spokesperson said: "We've had some inquiries about him [Marlet] but he's not a Fulham player until 1 July [because Marseille retain his registration until then] and then it's a decision for the boss as to his future."

Marlet will be available on a Bosman free transfer in July 2006, but neither Charlton nor West Ham can wait that long to increase their striking options.
