Hodgson - Defensive Error Costly

Fulham threw away a one goal lead to lose 2-1 at the KC Stadium when they really should have had the game wrapped up in the first 45 minutes, a Paul Konchesky error providing the home side with their winning goal.

"We were prepared for the game, but we just didn't play as well in the second half as we did in pre-season," Hodgson said after the firs game of the new season.

"In the first half I think the team were coming together well and we played some good football.

"It became a fight at both ends in the second half, and in those circumstances it was always possible a defensive error would settle the match, which is what happened.

"He [Konchesky] made the sort of error he rarely makes and he understands he didn't do the right thing in the situation."
