"I'm very happy for the club and the fans," he said.
"This is a big, very important result - but it's not finished yet and we have to be calm and win the second leg."
Tigana was quick to point out the important save that goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar made when he denied Mato Neretljak in the 11th minute with an excellent stop.
"It was difficult at the start and, after 20 minutes, I was a bit worried," said Tigana.
"But we began to control the game, played very well and Van der Sar made a great save."
