Melville will have to wait for contract talks

Melville, who is 34 next month and out of contract next June, has seen his first team place go to 22-year-old Zat Knight on many occasions this season.

And, he knows he has no hope of discovering if he is being offered a new deal or if he will have to look for a new club due to the delay in boss Jean Tigana's discussions with chairman Mohamed Al Fayed about his own contract.

Asked about his contract situation and being left out of the Fulham first team, he said: "The manager needs to sort his contract situation out first, and then we'll go from there.

"It's not been at all easy for me this season - but I can't do anything about it.

"The manager picks his side and you have to take it on the chin and get on with it.

"The gaffer's going for rotation at the moment, so we all have to go with his decision.

"As a professional, you want to play as many games as you can - and I'm no different to anyone else.

"I want to play every game - and I'd rather play proper matches than games on the training pitch."
