Player of the day- Moussa Dembele

Last updated : 28 August 2012 By DSG

Today?s Player of the Day is Fulham and Belgium international midfielder Moussa Dembele. With much interest around Dembele many have questioned whether he will still be a Fulham player by the end of the transfer window on Friday, with a particular interest coming from Premier League giants Manchester United and Arsenal.

Born 16th July 1987, Dembele played for Belgian side K. Berchem Sport as a youth and started his professional career for Germinal Beerschot, a team in the Belgian Pro League. In 2005 he signed for Dutch side Willem II, despite apparent interest from Ajax. His impressive performances for a poor Willem II side resulted in a transfer to a bigger Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar at the start of the 2006-07 season.

Dembele became an instant success at AZ and was an instrumental member of Louis Van Gaal?s team. During his three seasons in Holland, Dembele earned many plaudits across Europe and it was announced on 18th August 2010 that he had signed for Fulham on a three year deal for a fee of ?5 million.

Dembele made an excellent start to his career at Fulham, making his debut on 22nd August 2010 coming on as a substitute against Manchester United. He then went on to cap his first start for the club with a goal in a League Cup game against Port Vale. That same week Dembele made his first league start against Blackpool in which he provided two assists. His goal against Tottenham that season was voted by Fulham fans as their goal of the season for 2010.

Since making his debut, Dembele has become a fans favourite amongst the Fulham fans, but they aren?t the only ones to appreciate his talents. Demebele has long been rumoured for a move away from the London club but Fulham manager Martin Jol has insisted that if he were to move away it would be for a substantial price. Fulham fans will be hoping Jol can keep hold of their talisman after an impressive start to the 2012-13 season.
