Scholes and Rooney free to face Fulham

Manchester United will appeal to the Football Association against charges given to Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes that could land them three-match bans.

Charges of violent conduct and serious foul play were brought after the pair's red cards during a Manchester United friendly in Holland, against Porto.

Unless the suspensions are overturned, the pair will miss the trip to Charlton and home games with Watford and Spurs.

The pair will, however, be available for the league opener against Fulham.

That is because the report was delayed by post, and any ban can only come into force 14 days after the FA is informed.
