Paul Konchesky could replace Shorey at left-back if he recovers from an ankle injury but Andy Johnson, Clint Dempsey and John Pantsil (all knee) remain sidelined.
Juventus centre-back Giorgio Chiellini will also miss the first leg. Nicola Legrottaglie is expected to deputise in Turin.
