However, in a seperate case, Tigana is taking legal action against Fulham because he claims they failed to pay him £455,000 in wages and bonuses following his sacking in April this year.

Fulham's QC, David Phillips, told the London Evening Standard: "Tigana is not dependent upon this money for his bread and butter. He has had substantial sums from Fulham over the years."

With regards to Tigana paying over the odds for players such as Steve Marlet, who has recently been sold to Marseilles at a massive loss to the club, Phillips said: "Marlet was one of a number of footballers for whom Fulham paid significantly more than they should have.

"Footballers are commodities. Their value is not generally known. But it is known to people in the know."
