West Ham Among Trio of Premier League Clubs Interested in Sampdoria Loanee Grégoire Defrel

West Ham, Watford and Fulham are all reportedly in the hunt to sign Sampdoria striker Grégoire Defrel in January.

Defrel, who is currently on loan at Sampdoria from Roma, has bagged six goals in 18 Serie A appearances this campaign, and his performances are understood to have attracted the interest of a number of clubs - with relegation threatened Fulham leading the race for his signature.

Sky in Italy claim that all three sides want to add a striker to their ranks during the current window and have identified Defrel as a potential signing.

Defrel is a 27-year-old striker that started his career with Parma before moving to Sassuolo where he made his name. He netted 19 times in 62 appearances for the club, forcing Roma to fork out around £15m for his services. Although it hasn't worked out for him in Rome, there appear to be plenty of potential suitors on English shores.

Fulham are most in need of bolstering their attacking ranks as they sit in the bottom three having scored just 19 goals all season - only Huddersfield and Newcastle have scored fewer. Aleksandar Mitrovic has bagged eight goals this campaign but Claudio Ranieri will want to ease the burden felt by the Serb as the Cottagers fight for survival.

Watford haven't struggled for goals in general, but strikers Troy Deeney and Andry Gray have only netted eight times between them this season during 33 appearances. Boss Javi Gracia frequently plays with two front men so Defrel could provide useful competition to the Englishmen.

West Ham are another potential destination for Defrel, though manager Manuel Pellegrini already has Marko ArnautovicJavier Hernandez, Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez at his disposal. However, the Hammers are willing to listen to offers for injury prone Carroll and may decide to splash the cash once again as they push for a seventh place finish.

The situation should become clearer in the next few weeks as to which London club, if any, Defrel could be joining.
